Consumer Electronics
Senior Design Manager at Skype - Software & Hardware Integrations for TV, home phones and headless devices
Working with the consumer electronics teams at Skype was one of my favourite experiences as a designer. I loved it.
I was lucky enough to travel to Tallinn in Estonia, and San Francisco to meet and work directly with our consumer electronics developers in the Palo Alto office. I worked with Sony to create versions of Skype for their upcoming Sony Vita and Bravo TV’s. We designed for ‘headless’ devices that had no screen, home phones, and collaborated with numerous TV manufacturers on versions of the Skype app for their Skype enabled TV’s. Then finally, our very own version of ‘Skype on your TV’ application, optimised for Samsung devices.
This projects covered the full product lifecycle. Everything you’d ever need to experience as a Product Designer, from the incubation and conceptualisation through to the final production and launch.
Highlights
Work included generating scenarios, illustrating user journeys, prototyping, wire framing, user testing, site maps, diagrams, process flows. I created documentation and a design guidelines for TV manufacturers and development teams to reference so they could replicate the experience in their own environment and operating systems of choice.
